...my daddy played for a rugby club called Westleigh RFC, they played in black and white stripes. I loved watching daddy play and still love Westleigh. I also loved animals, more so then than now. If i was really lucky I'd get to go to the zoo with my parents. At the zoo I always saw zebras. Mummy used to tell me, "they're Westleigh animals." And so little Kate loved zebras.
There are some things you carry with you through your life you arnt even aware of. My love of zebras was one of these. In February 2000 I was lucky enough to get to go to South Africa. We went to a huge wildlife reserve. We saw elephants, ostriches, wilderbeast, springbok, but all i wanted to see was a zebra. I didnt see a zebra. In my distress i decided to abuse the fact i was an only child and try and pursuade daddy to buy me a zebra. It was the only time i can ever remeber him saying no to me.
Still distraught I moved on with my life, whinging about how I didnt see a zebra to anyone that would listen. On April 28th 2000 I met Andy. Who turned into my boyfriend. At some point during the early stages of our relationship I happened to mention the aforementioned zebra tragedy. Andy promised to buy me a zebra. I went away to Dublin and when I got back I found the most adorable zebra called Ritchie waiting for me. After Ritchie I bought Charlie, at the glastonbury festival. Then Lawrence, then Socky, then ZIppy....and the list now goes on. I also own ridiculous amounts of zebra clothes, pillows, staionary.....etc,etc,etc.
And thats where the zebra obsession began. I like to blame my mother. or Andy or daddy for not buying me the zebra I wanted in South Africa. Whoevers to blame,, the zebra is here to stay....beware the zebras.....
